Dennis Nicolaas Maria Bergkamp (born May 10, 1969 in Amsterdam) is a former Dutch footballer. In his career, which he began in 1986 with Ajax Amsterdam and in 2006 finished at Arsenal, he was active in the professional leagues of England, Italy and the Netherlands. He was also the Dutch national team and participated in several World and European Championships. The offensive player is considered one of the best and technically most footballers in the 1990s.

Bergkamp was - like many other famous footballers of the Netherlands also - out of the football academy of Ajax Amsterdam. After a few years in the youth department of the club, he was appointed in 1986 by Johan Cruyff in the first team. His strike partner Marco van Basten was at that time. By 1993, Bergkamp played for Ajax. He won again the Dutch championship, the Dutch Cup twice and each time the UEFA Cup and European Cup Winners' Cup. He scored for Amsterdam in 185 league games 103 goals.
In 1993 he moved for the equivalent of 19.7 million euros, together with his club colleague Wim Jonk in the Italian Serie A with Inter Milan. At that time it was the most expensive transfer for a football player. With Inter Bergkamp also won the UEFA Cup once (1994 against SV Austria Salzburg), but he was never really happy in Milan (he was not the defensive style of play and he had problems with his strike partner Rubén Sosa Arzaiz). After only two years and only 11 goals in 52 games, he switched back. This time he went for 11 million euros (7.5 million pounds) to the British Isles to the English Arsenal.
For Londoners Bergkamp quickly established himself and became a key player arsenal. Bergkamp scored for Arsenal in 315 missions 87 league goals. His popularity and his role on the island increased to the point that he was elected in 1998 by both the players and journalists from the English Footballer of the Year. With Arsenal, he won the League title three times, four times depending on the FA Cup and the English Super Cup 2000 again and also reached the UEFA Cup final (there had to be London's), however, give beaten Galatasaray. The really big success in European club football was denied to him: 2006 the Arsenal had to give FC Barcelona in the final of the Champions League defeat with 1:2.

In the 2008/09 season Bergkamp gained as an assistant to Johan Neeskens in the Dutch B team first experience as a coach. Since the start of the 2009/10 season he works as a youth coach at his former club AFC Ajax.
In the national team
In the Dutch national team Bergkamp, who said after the semi-off against Italy at Euro 2000 his resignation came on 79 missions in which he scored 37 goals. He participated with the national team in two World Cups and three European championships. Although, each time, at least until he came into the quarter-finals, it was enough for him and the Netherlands, however, never became a great success: Three times the team had to admit defeat until the semi-finals and twice in the quarter was already concluded.

Dennis Bergkamp was named after the Manchester United legend Denis Law. His contract with Arsenal every time he extended a handshake for one year. Especially keep in mind it is because of two things: his spectacular goals and his fear of flying. At this he suffered since he fell out with the Dutch national team at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in turmoil. Therefore, he was also missing in many international away matches of his club. Dennis Bergkamp is married to Henrita Ruizendaal, together they have four children: Estelle, Yasmin, Saffron and Mitchel. He is very tight - a friend of Marc Overmars - his former colleagues in the Dutch national team and at Ajax Amsterdam and Arsenal.
